The National Association of Realtors' released an improved existing home sales forecast for the second half of 2008 on Monday, citing plummeting existing home prices and an increased ability for buyers to attain affordable mortgages. The NAR's Pending Home Sales Index, a forward-looking indicator based on contracts signed in April, rose 6.3 percent to 88.2. It is the highest index since October 2007, but is still 13.1 percent lower than April 2007 when it was 101.5.
