Glenn Singer - Supply Chain Connections

Glen Singer
This blog will discuss how builders and manufactures can derive mutual benefits from forging in-depth relationships and by developing a continued dialogue on issues and opportunities facing both. It will identify the “gaps” that exist today between the two entities and explore how to close these gaps in such a way that each will benefit. It will also expose “real life” builder and manufacturer relationship successes as well as failures.

In the November 2007 issue of Custom Builder magazine there is an interesting article on purchasing strategies for custom builders, but as I read the article for a second time it was clear that these strategies would work for any size builder.

The 9 tips outlined in the article are:

1. Don’t nickel and dime vendors for the lowest price
2. Nurture a partnering relationship with your suppliers
3. Be an attractive customer to your building supplier
4. Don’t get stuck in a rut; get competitive bids
5. Be an educated “consumer”
6. Build relationships with manufacturers
7. Negotiate special pricing
8. Cultivate single-source suppliers
9. Standard products as much as possible

You can read the article online at www.CustomBuilderOnline.com.   It will be well worth your effort.
