Jonathan Sweet - Remodeling Notes

Jay Sweet
As senior editor of Professional Remodeler, a lot of information crosses my desk. This blog will be a chance to share some of that with you, with an immediacy not possible with a monthly magazine. It's also your chance to tell me what you think about what I have to say. Whether you agree or disagree, I hope you won't be shy.

It's 10 a.m. Do you know what your trades are doing?

This is what I keep thinking about as I watch the house next door get built.

Over the last couple weeks a few trades have been coming in and out. What I find intriguing is that clearly the builder isn't paying much attention and here's why I say that. Yesterday, for the first time in about two weeks, the upstairs windows were finally closed. (I'm guessing they had opened them to get some fresh air during the hot days we'd been having until our recent break in the warm spell.)

As you may have heard, we've had a bit of rain in the Midwest recently. While we're not getting the flooding seen near the rivers and lakes, it's been a very wet last couple of weeks. So every time it's rained I've watched the water literally pour into the second floor of this house and thought, "This can't be good." It's still unfinished, but the subfloor is in, along with a lot of the electrical, HVAC, etc.

I thought it was supposed to be easier to find good trades these days ...
