Multi-Link Monday: Green, opting for smaller homes

Here are some things that caught my eye the last few days:
- Newsweek examines John McCain, Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama to see who would be the "greenest" president. My take? While Obama and Clinton are probably going to have more environmentally friendly policies, it may take a Republican to get big business on board with significant changes. On the other hand, as the article points out, President Bush gave enough lip service to the environment in 2000 to convince people he would pay attention, but has pretty much done nothing about it during his seven years in office.
- Have Americans finally had enough of McMansions? The Associated Press writes about a trend of home sizes leveling off. Is this a matter of choice or are people being forced into it by economic realities? WSJ's Development Blog reacts here.
- Diana Olick, a frequent critic of homebuilders in her CNBC Realty Check blog, comes out in favor of the tax break for the construction industry contained in the bill that Senate leaders announced last week.
- I know many of you travel a lot, so here's some tips from the Consumerist on what to do if you're unlucky enough to be holding tickets from Aloha, ATA or Skybus, the three airlines that went under last week.
- And remember the story I posted last week about a homeowner getting his stuff stolen because of a Craigslist posting? Well, police have arrested the people who made the fake post, apparently because they were trying to cover up their own theft of saddles from the guy's house. You can read more here.
