The NAHB BuildPAC committee voted this afternoon to cut off all donations to members of Congress. The idea here seems to be that this will make Congress pay more attention to housing issues. NAHB's lobbying staff is saying they already have been contacted by fundraisers to find out what's going on, so it seems to be getting the attention the group is going for.
Secondly, NAHB is currently undertaking a "rebranding" initiative as the group tries to position itself for the future. The NAHB Remodelers is using this as an opportunity to try to get the word "remodelers" included in the group's name -- something along the lines of National Association of Builders and Remodelers. Frankly, it's a great idea and one that is long overdue. The remodelers are an important part of the organization and represent a great opportunity for membership growth. As several remodeler members have pointed out, the current name doesn't lend itself to attracting remodeler members. And perhaps it could put the oft-discussed merger with NARI back on the table.
