Consumer Reports takes a look at ways to save energy in its latest issue. As part of that series, the magazine also rated replacement windows on several factors including wind resistance, rain resistance, durability and convenience.
Among wood-clad windows, Marvin's Clad Ultimate and Wood Ultrex Integrity lines scored the highest, although Pella's ProLine and Andersen's 200 Series Tilt-Wash received "Best Buy" designations for their lower prices.
The Reliabilt 5600 from Lowe's took top honors for vinyl windows. The Reliabilt and the American Craftsman 9500 Series from Home Depot were both Best Buys.
The Pella Impervia was selected as the top fiberglass window and a Best Buy by the magazine.

What a joke. The Reliabuilt 5600 the best vinyl window?? I wouldn't put it in the top 300.

I have many of these windows in my house and found they are junk. They are flimsy at best and within 3 years I have one that is fogged between the glass pains.

I cant belive that they don''t even include the Simonton product in their review. It may be the best value on the market....

NO WAY, ONLY POLITICIANS DO STUFF LIKE THAT...RIDICULOUS!!!

Reliabilt (spelled correctly unlike Window 4U) have been in my home for many years now. I installed them myself and they have been fantastic! The problem with many windows (no matter who makes them) is the installer. You can''t trust anyone to work on your home anymore. Take some time to learn how to install windows yourself and the brand won''t matter. Nothing like doing a job yourself and saving money in the meantime.
