As editor in chief of Professional Remodeler, a lot of information crosses my desk. This blog will be a chance to share some of that with you, with an immediacy not possible with a monthly magazine. It's also your chance to tell me what you think about what I have to say. Whether you agree or disagree, I hope you won't be shy. In its latest issue, Consumer Reports takes a look at home repairs and offers its ratings for siding products. Here's what came out on top. Products were rated on price, fading, impact and wind resistance and rigidity. (Click here to see the CR roofing ratings) Here's how the products fared:

Vinyl

Plastic Shingles/Shakes
CertainTeed Cedar Impressions Straight Edge Perfection received the best ratings, with the KP (ABTCO) Perfection Shingle also recommended.

Fiber Cement
The top-rated siding was Nichiha Sierra Premium Smooth, with the James Hardie HardiePlank also recommended.

I think that when you are remodeling you want to be around the project as much as possible!
If you can do a lot of it yourself that helps on quality and money.
Usually the best job done is the one you do because you know how you want it done and you
want it done nicely because you’ll be seeing it everyday - the contracter wont!
Thanks for this blog it had a lot of great information!
