The company has been working with local union officials and it's now up to Bank of America and other stakeholders along with the bankruptcy judge to determine if they'll accept the Serious Materials offer.
The plant and workers caught the company's attention during the sit-in that made national news after the abrupt shutdown.
"We felt bad for the workers," Surace says. "It was a very sad situation. We needed the capacity, so we could do something about it. It's a very, very exciting opportunity."
Surace estimates the company will be able to manufacture 50,000 windows a month at the 300,000 sq. ft. facility. He says demand is up for their high R-value windows, even in this down market, as people look for more energy efficiency.
Besides the potential Republic purchase, Surace says the company is also going to be announcing another plant purchase next week.

This is great news. I love this company''s efficient line of windows, Thermaproof and drywall alternative, EcoRock. Plus to possibly re-open a plant in the midwest is a shot in the arm we need. Will they be manufacturing the Thermaproof line there? This company''s responsible philosophy on sustainability is also to be applauded.
