Spending More Green on ‘Green’

Consumers are expected to double their spending on green products and services in the next year, totaling an estimated $500 billion annually, according to findings from a survey conducted by Landor Associates; Penn, Schoen & Berland (PSB) Associates; and Cohn & Wolfe.
The research also found that 90% of Americans agree that there are important green issues and problems, and 82% believe it is important for companies to implement environmentally friendly practices. The survey metrics used and study size sample was not known as of this blog post.
Remodelers and builders, this is another confirmation that green, at least for now, will continue to have a huge bearing on your prospects’ decisions. Perceptions are changing, though it is unclear on what exactly is to come of the green movement.
What’s your take on the green movement? I’d personally rather repeatedly run my head into a wall good and hard before I said anything about it, and some of us, like my boss, Paul Deffenbaugh, are so sick of the word that they favor abandoning the term altogether. Read his “Green Building Jumps the Shark” for a funny, insightful and jaded look at the green movement (along with a great picture of The Fonz)
