From Lead to Gold: Alchemy Glass

One of the great joys of my position is getting to look at all the photography that comes along wit
h a product’s press kit. Take a look at these sinks from L.A.-based Alchemy Glass and Light and designer (and company co-founder) Steve Weinstock. These are just too cool-looking. The names aren’t bad either: Cosmic Burst, Terra Nova, Aqua Luna, Retro Orbit, Mosaic and Aurora Bloom are your choices.
Their press release states: “While Alchemy has been producing unique glass sinks, lighting, accessories, tableware and tile for over 15 years, their most recent line – the Celestial Series - features a recycled foray into space, where geometric glass scraps find their shape in contemporary sinks.”
The sinks are both pretty to look at and impressively functional and adaptable. Round sinks may be installed as either undermount or above-counter vessels. Selected styles are also available as oval undermounts: 19 x 16-inches. They weigh between 20 and 30 pounds (due to the thickness of the glass) and are drilled and countersunk for Alchemy’s specially designed grid strainer drain.
The company also offers stone and glass countertops, which can be lit from underneath by installing low voltage lighting under the sink—not a bad idea for a hip, modern bathroom. Mirrors, tableware, glass tiles and various sconces, pendants and bath roll lighting fixtures are also offered to complete the look.
