Builders, have you ever thought about incorporating wind power into your communities? In some places it’s obviously not feasible—there’s not many wind farms in downtown Minneapolis—but if it could work…would you consider it?
Here’s just one example of making it work. According to a press release, Abbotsford, British Columbia’s Eagle West Cranes Inc. and its subsidiary Stampede Crane and Rigging Inc. of Calgary, announced today that they have been awarded the Dokie Wind Project turbine installation contract, which will be the first ever wind farm installation in British Columbia, as well as one of the largest wind farms in Canada.
The project is owned by Earth First Energy Inc. of Victoria, and the general contractor is Canadian Projects Limited of Calgary.
The farm will consist of 48 Vestas V90 wind turbines (See video below)
Located near Chetwynd, B.C. the project will be done in two phases, beginning in August 2008. Anticipated completion date is October 2009. The Dokie Wind Project has the opportunity to supply 536 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, which is enough to power nearly 50,000 homes.
