As promised, here are some more products I saw last week at the Remodeling Show in Indianapolis. Yesterday I featured some great new products from Fasco, Regency, Geocel, MositureShield and others. Today I have some videos and more write-ups for your approval.

Johnson Hardware
The company has some great options for installing pocket doors. I’m personally a big fan because the doors free up about 8-10 extra square feet and I think they are quite nice on the aesthetic level. The company also has a solution for those builders or contractors that say pocket doors aren't durable enough. The 2060 model, for example, can hold a door that weighs up to 300 pounds. Johnson Hardware also offers a jamb kit for entryways up to 3 feet wide by 6’8” high.

The picture (taken by yours truly at my desk) shown here is the installation guide—printed right on one of their brochures. If it fits on one page it can’t be all that hard to install, right?

Simpson Strong-Tie
The top-notch structural manufacturer has a new collated fastener, the DHPD hardwood deck screw. It’s made for the toughest hardwood deck boards. You can fasten woods such as Ipe to pressure-treated joists without pre-drilling—the DHPD’s paddle-style drill point bores through boards like butter without splitting the wood. You can also counter-bore the material because of the mid-wings for a spiffy clean finish.

Simpson Strong-Tie also had a deck collapse demonstration at the show. I took some video but I’m having a hard time with embedding the file. At any rate, here is a direct link to Simpson’s official deck collapse video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVS47Wqp3D8

Ultra-tec
I thought these brought a nice design element into what could be a fairly ho-hum topic—railings. Ultra-tec had a nice big display of their cable railing systems. Shown here is a double end post constructin that features two 2-by-1-inch tubular steel posts that are separated by stainless steel spacers. The company’s Adjust-A-Jaw tensioners are used on one end and the Ultra-tec Fixed Jaws are used on the other run to keep the lines taut.

Fiberon
The decking company has also entered the PVC board market with the Sensibuilt PVC decking. The boards feature the company’s Lumenite surface for fade and scratch resistance—the Lumenite is akin to the tough coatings used in other industries.

The boards install with the Deck Pilot tool and also carry a Class-A fire rating for flame spread. You’ll get a 10-year stain and fade warranty and a limited lifetime performance warranty.

Classic Metal Roofing Systems
One word? Striking. I was pretty impressed with the look of Classic Metal Roofing Systems’ new Country Manor Shake roof tiles. What’s unique is the four-way interlocking system and the company’s hI-R (no typo—that’s what it’s called) heat barrier technology. The shakes are made from 95 percent post-consumer recycled content. There are some great colors available, including an aged copper patina. www.classicmetalroofingsystems.com
