Remodeling Show Product Highlights

As promised, here are some of the great new products I was able to check out at the Remodeling Show (Twitter hastag: #RemShow). Be sure to click on the links for more!

I’ll be featuring more products tomorrow. Check back around lunch time or look out for the word on Twitter. Follow me (and follow some of the people that follow me!) on the messaging service @nbajzek.

MoistureShield / A.E.R.T.
Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies (A.E.R.T.) has a new deck tile in the MoistureShield EcoShield Deck Tiles. One thing you won’t notice is how it’s put together—just like floor boards, these tiles simply snap and lock into place. You can install these pretty much anywhere so long as it’s a level surface. The wood/polyethylene tiles contain a minimum 30 percent post-consumer recycled content and 60 percent pre-consumer recycled content. www.moistureshield.com

Geocel
I thought this one was really cool. The Pro Gutter Seal Scypolymer Sealant by Geocel is a non-shrinking, ultra-fast curing sealant. It can even cure under water. The formula is extremely weather- and UV-resistant and it’ll stay flexible as well to accommodate expansion and contraction. www.GeocelUSA.com

E-Z Breathe
Indoor Air Quality is one of those hot-button issues swirling around the industry these days. I saw the E-Z Breathe Ventilation System up close and personal at the show. One E-Z Breathe unit controls moisture levels and air quality for up to 7000 sq. ft. (1 unit: 7 rooms). Best of all, it uses about the same amount of electricity as 40-watt light bulb, or, by the company’s estimates, about $2 to $4 per month. www.ezbreathe.com

Fasco
The Scrail line of fasteners from Fasco America has been around for a few years, but they’ve upgraded the product with the company’s FasCoat finish for corrosion resistance. The really neat thing is the BeckDeck double-thread, which bores through most composite deck boards without silly-looking mushrooming or “volcanoeing.” www.fascoamerica.com/fasteners.php

TAMKO
Deck boards made from PVC are the next step up from composite deck boards (though to be fair they obviously have a higher price point and have their own set of benefits and drawbacks). TAMKO has a great product in the Envision PVC decking. The boards contain no organic fillers, so they have exceptional weather/element/mold resistance. As of press time, the boards sport a wood grain texture and are available in three colors – Taupe, Sand and Grey. www.tamko.com

Regency
Okay, these fireplaces make my 1970s fireplace look…well, like it was made in the 1970s. Regency has some really cool (opposite pun intended) gas inserts, particularly in the Sunrise models (E33s and U32s). I was in the booth scoping these out and I honestly was sweating after a few minutes. Notice the cobalt blue crystals—very nice. These direct-vent models (LP conversion kit available as well) also sport a 30-degree angled flue for some wiggle room during installation. www.regency-builder.com
