It’s not every day that I get to check out a cool product AND a webcast on it. And from the looks of it, if Vela Systems has their way, you can say bye-bye to the clipboard.
Check out the webcast here: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/153978020
You can even check it out on YouTube: http://www.velasystems.com/Testimonials.html

In a nutshell, the mobile software is meant to work on tablet PCs to do many of the things that your guys in the field would have to waste time on: paperwork, back office reporting, OSHA safety checks, etc. The coolest module I saw was the “Safety OSHA” feature, which shows all the detailed information related to a deficiency or violation in the field (it even cites the exact OSHA regulation).

The company provides a great bullet list of the software’s capabilities on their website:
- VelaSync for automatically synchronizing and distributing contract and other documents, such as construction drawings, specifications, or photographs, to the field, to offices and back.
- Content and a Pre-populated Knowledge Management Library, for a range of project and program types and field administration processes.
- Customize to your project protocols and best practices.
- Patent-pending VelaTags link vital project information to specific areas of the work, speeding up observations and inspections, while reducing the chance for error.
- A ‘full enterprise-class software architecture’ for managing field administration tasks all the way back to the office and integrating with processes systems:
- User-configurable Reporting and Views
- User and role-based workflow
- Built-in email integration
- Web-services or ODBC integration to back-end systems
- Works in the “occasionally connected” environment – always-on Internet access of web-based solutions is not required.
