"Cathedralize" Those Roofs

Chris Shumacher's "Unvented Roof Assemblies for All Climates" just came down the pike at the office the other day. Shumacher is a principal for Building Science Consulting and his piece argues for the use of unvented "Cathedralized" attics over conventional vented attic spaces.
He may have a point. Air flow is a difficult beast to master. Wind and temperature differences, pressures created by HVAC equipment and moisture can all lead to headaches (or allergic reactions) to homeowners. It also advocates the use of Closed-Cell Spray Polyurethane Foam (hereby known as ccSPF) as an air barrier and vapor retarder to control vapor diffusion and rain leakage.
It gets back to an article I wrote earlier in the year, "Warm All Over," in which I discussed insulation properties and some of the newer products to hit the market.
