Building With Kilz

There's nothing like drywall problems to snag time and profitability from a job. But how would you like a Level 5 finish while eliminating two-step skim coating/priming? Masterchem Industries, under the Kilz brand name, claim to do that with their latest product, the High Build.
High Build, accordong to Kilz, can be applied much thicker than most primers and is ideal for rough and problem surfaces. This new primer replaces a skim coat when sprayed, saving professionals valuable prep time. For guys and gals without a distribution channel, you can find it at the big box stores
Quick Hits:
• Interior water-base formulation allows thicker coat than traditional primers, equal to four coats of paint without mud cracking or sag problems
• Designed for unprepared drywall or damaged or textured surfaces
• Hides or smooths small surface imperfections
• Provides a finish equivalent to a fully prepared skim coat/ level 5 finish when sprayed
• Appropriate on all interior ceilings and walls including paperless drywall
• High hide, stainblocking and a mildew resistant finish
• May be tinted, sprayed, brushed or rolled

You know this almost sound good. I'm finishing a drywall job today (that was started by an amateur) that still needs a little work. I'm going to try and let you know. p.s. I'm a skeptic.

I used Kilz High Coat yesterday on walls where someone had applied wallpaper about 40 years ago - with nothing under it but papered wallboard. Removing the paper left the walls a real, damaged mess. Two coats of Kilz, applied heavily with a brush, worked wonders! They still need some patching here and there, but the Kilz worked wonders!

Matt, How did it turn out, by the way? Sorry I didn't reply to your comment sooner...my reporting system doesn't always let me know when someone posts a comment. Tally Ho, TPG
