Commitments to extended family led the empty-nester owners of this custom residence to request a home nearly twice the size of the homes around it. The lot was an infill site in a TND community, so the architect's main design challenge was to provide the requested square footage without overpowering the existing streetscape. The oddly shaped corner lot with lake views presented another challenge. The home's traditional-style front elevation features a second-floor balcony and a roof form that create an exterior style relating to the scale of neighboring houses. Around the corner, a courtyard creates a visual break between the main structure and an attached two-story pool and guesthouse. Curved bays accent the corners of the home's front elevation and contribute significantly to the exterior and interior character. A mix of formal and informal living spaces, a magnificent master suite, a study, comfortable guest quarters and a gourmet kitchen anchored by a multi-height, multifunctional central island compose the home's interior. Exterior and interior materials were selected for their appropriateness to the home's style and elegance.
