Blending the tropical charm of a West Indies retreat with classical architecture, this custom oceanfront home makes the most of its island location with a full-width beach room and a veranda to take in the sights and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean. The two-story residence features a symmetrical layout beginning with a central courtyard created by splitting the garage space into two single-car garages and a focal-point entryway. The library/den and kitchen flank the main hallway. To maximize the ocean views, the architect stepped the rooms downward, from this level to the beach room, the veranda and then the pool level. On the second floor, the master suite continues the central-axis theme with an entry foyer flanked by his-and-her salons, which include private dressing, bathing and office areas. The bedroom offers a commanding view of the water. Four secondary bedrooms, each with a full bath, ensure the comfort of the family and overnight guests. The home features 16-inch-thick traditional tabby walls inside and out and mahogany windows and doors.
