| The kitchen in this residence was designed to be a functional, sophisticated, high-end work space for numerous chefs and their guests in a moderately sized space. It provides multiple workstations that create two effective work triangles. The island contains a main cleanup area, a preparation station, a butcher-block chopping area, a warming drawer and a separate baking center. Adult friends and family visit at a raised bar at one end of the island while children snack at a lower counter at the opposite end. The kitchen's main cook station features a 48-inch gourmet cooktop, which includes a pot-filler faucet, and a full-size refrigerator, whose glass-front doors reveal its contents at a glance. A beverage center in the nook is equipped with a gourmet cappuccino machine, a cup-warming drawer, an under-counter wine caddy and a concealed, drop-down plasma television. Architectural lighting is used in the kitchen to illuminate work areas and set the ambience for the room. Additional lights inside the knotty alder cabinetry highlight selected elements of the homeowners' dinnerware, and decorative pendants add mood lighting. The floors are distressed hickory, and countertops are a combination of concrete, marble and wood accented by tumbled-limestone and bronze tiles. | |||||
