Square Footage: 32,775

For the builder, constructing this 32,775-square-foot custom home proved to be more akin to running a large commercial project than building a typical residence. The estate includes a main house, a guesthouse, a cabana, a gazebo, a pavilion, mechanical buildings, a tower, a theater, an arcade building and a security center. The 25-foot drop in elevation from front to back presented additional opportunities and challenges. The interior of the home features extensive use of plaster cornice moldings, walnut and cherry hardwood flooring, hand-carved limestone fireplace surrounds, a climate-controlled wine room, and a commercial kitchen for catered affairs. Mechanical systems include 100-ton, chilled-water air conditioning; lighting control; closed-circuit security cameras; a state-of-the-art theater; and whole-house audio and communications. Despite the project's large scale, the home retains a human scale and warmth throughout. The architectural and interior design teams collaborated with the builder and homeowner to achieve this goal.
