This charming vacation home, located in a neo-traditional development on a barrier island off the North Carolina coast, is designed to serve as a seaside family retreat. Taking into account the harsh weather that oceanfront structures endure, the builder chose materials for durability and low maintenance, including fiber-cement siding, composite decking and red cedar roof shingles. The builder also used special construction techniques to ensure that the traditional character of the home's exterior design could be maintained. Inside, The Reunion House features an open floor plan that provides enough flexibility to accommodate large groups and changing needs. Each bedroom has a full bath, ensuring exceptional privacy for friends and family members. Covered porches surround the living space on three sides. The second-floor media room opens onto a private deck. A fifth bedroom, which could be used as a guest room, is above the home's separate, two-car garage. The site of this home can be reached only by boat, so one of the builder's major construction challenges was to transport all materials, equipment and labor to the island via a barge and ferry system.
