This custom project blends the influences that the homeowners deemed important in their lives. The exterior design, for example, was inspired by a Mayan ruin that the owners had visited on a memorable vacation. Located on a 20-acre site in the Sonoran Desert, the home is color-matched on the outside to the local soil so that it blends with its surroundings. Covered porches that encircle the home extend living space to the outdoors. The heart of the rambling plan is the Shaker-influenced kitchen, which showcases a tin-accented ceiling and backsplash. This comforting space was designed to recall a grandmother's kitchen. The home's rambling floor plan features a luxurious master retreat at one end and two guest suites at the opposite end. Special touches in the master bath include glass sinks and tiles that blend with tumbled marble. The living spaces, which separate the bedroom suites, look out on the area's beautiful scenery. These living areas include an Alaska-inspired lodge room, formal living and dining rooms, and a spacious office. Another highlight is an outdoor living room that overlooks a bluestone-rimmed pool and spa with a tumbled paver deck.
