Launches New Version of Exclusive Wall-Mounted idrive™ Garage Door Opener

An unprecedented mix of features to make operating a garage door quieter, safer and more convenient

The lack of a chain or screw drive rail is a big reason for the most compelling benefit of the new wall-mounted idrive opener -- its smooth, quiet operation. Many mechanical parts common to chain or screw drive openers are eliminated, so noise is naturally reduced. Without a rail attached to the ceiling, noise and vibration are not transmitted to any room above the garage.

Wayne-Dalton is rolling out a new version of its innovative garage door opener, the idrive, which works on doors with torsion spring counterbalances. idrive is Wayne-Dalton's exclusive opener that attaches directly to the wall above the door, eliminating the bulky rail that normally extends into the garage. Until now, the idrive worked only for TorqueMaster™, Wayne-Dalton's unique spring system that encloses the springs inside a steel tube. Many existing garage doors, however, utilize torsion springs because they have existed much longer.

Aided by computer technology, the idrive opener offers an unprecedented mix of features to make operating a garage door quieter, safer and more convenient. The idrive opener mounts to the wall and torsion bar directly above the door. When activated, it simply turns the bar to operate the door, eliminating the need for any rotating chain, screw or belt drive mechanism.

The idrive opener has a series of exclusive safety and convenience features that can be operated from its wireless wall station, such as a pet button that opens the door to a height specified by the homeowner and a 10-second closing delay. The side location of the release handle offers easier access and greater security, as opposed to release handles that hang from the ceiling above the center of the door.

Wiring between the opener and the light is not required, allowing the light to plug into a standard outlet within line of sight of the opener. Omitting wiring for the light and wallstation is an obvious cost advantage.

Since the opener does not attach directly to the door as conventional chain, belt and screw drive openers do, no operator arm attachment is needed. This helps potential buckling of the top section over time.
