Typar Weather Protection System Products Earn "Green Approved" Label from National Association of Home Builders Research Center
Typar Weather Resistant Barriers First Building Wrap Products to Receive NAHB Research Center's Green Seal of Approval
June 30, 2009
OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center has recently designated several Typar Weather Protection System products with its Green Approved Products seal of approval.
Through Green Approved labeling, the Research Center reviews and approves third-party evidence that building products meet specific scoring criteria for homes seeking certification to the National Green Building Standard, a consensus-developed standard recently approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Green Approved was developed to help builders and designers select products that meet specific green practices that contribute points towards the National Green Building Standard. Typar products receiving the designation include:
Typar MetroWrap is a commercial-grade wrap engineered specifically for the longer building cycles of multi-family dwellings and other commercial applications where a heavier wrap with superior tear strength, moisture vapor transmission and water holdout is required.
Typar StormWrap is a fiber-reinforced building wrap engineered to resist the penetration of windborne objects during extreme weather conditions. Designed for residential and commercial applications, StormWrap provides structural and dimensional stability by resisting settling or movement.
Typar HouseWrap is a durable weather resistant barrier that combines superior water holdout with the ability to allow harmful moisture vapor to escape the cavity wall. This reduces the risk of moisture intrusion, which can lead to mold growth and degradation of indoor air quality.
Typar Flashings are compatible with all Typar building wraps and gives builders three options to ensure seal integrity around doors, windows and other exterior rough openings in the building envelope. Typar flashings will not contribute to the growth of mold or degradation of indoor air quality.
“Typar is committed to providing builders with cost-effective products that contribute to the sustainability, energy-efficiency and overall health of green homes,” says Bob Dahl, Business Director of Typar Construction Products. “With the NAHB Research Center Green Approved Products program, the building and design community now has a comprehensive, easy to use resource to help simplify their green building efforts.”
As a component of the Typar Weather Protection System, Typar products contribute to the ENERGY STAR New Home program requirements, and the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program for both new commercial and residential construction. Typar weather-resistant products produce minimal VOC emissions and contain more than 23 percent post-industrial content. Additionally, the system reduces the risk of water intrusion that can lead to mold and mildew growth, which can degrade indoor air quality.
