Southwestern Style In A Midwestern Locale

This design was actually the client’s idea.

A clear-coat finish on the tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling allows the wood’s natural distresses to show through. The supplier of the naturally variegated tile used throughout the master bath is Epstone and the style is Travo Scabas Tumbleweed.

When builder Gary Sorcic's clients re-evaluated their retirement plans, opting to build their new home on an expansive 180-acre site in the rolling hills of central Wisconsin rather than their original Arizona destination--they still wanted to build the same "dream" home they'd designed for the Southwest they loved.

The innovative design and finishes of the master bath allow the homeowners to live that dream--immersing themselves in the warm ambiance of the Southwest, even though they live in Wisconsin. The curved wall behind the master bath actually wraps around to create a spacious 7-foot shower complete with a glass block window.

The bathroom’s custom maple cabinetry features a deliberately rustic finish. An archway above the vanity is another Southwestern design element. Reflected in the mirror is the second vanity of this retreat.

Its clamshell design eliminates the need for shower doors. Inside, a special showerhead creates a waterfall effect for the occupant.

The staggered tile design on the wall could evoke the feeling of a desert wash in Arizona or reflect the hillside site that the home occupies in the Midwest. "The design was actually the client's idea," says builder Sorcic.
