New World Home Goes Platinum in New York With Two Historic Green Milestones

New York, Sept. 17 — For the second time this year, New World Home has achieved a historic milestone in green housing by obtaining LEED for Homes Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The company has created the first factory-built home in New York State to earn LEED Platinum certification, as well as the first home of any type in New York to earn the prestigious Platinum rating without the need for any costly renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines or geothermal systems. The home is one of only two to ever obtain LEED Platinum certification in New York. The New World Home project, located in Youngsville, Sullivan County, also earned ENERGY STAR certification.
"Earlier in the year, we attained LEED Platinum certification for one of our homes in Atlanta, and we are extremely excited to replicate that achievement here in New York," says Mark Jupiter, Co-Founder and President of the Product Division for New World Home. "It reinforces our ability to deliver quality green homes that are so efficient at a core level that they don't require the use of renewable energy sources.
"This particular house will have solar panels installed, but we again proved we can achieve LEED Platinum certification without them," adds Mr. Jupiter. "When the 5kW solar panels on this home are installed and activated, actual energy consumption requirements will decrease even further."
Some of the most significant features of the New York house are its tight construction, thermal envelope, efficient mechanicals and eye for detail, says Karla Donnelly, LEED for Homes rater at Steven Winter Associates, sustainability specialists and LEED Provider. "This is one of the tightest homes we've tested, and a tight thermal envelope will help this home's occupant reduce energy consumption by half compared to having been built to the current building code. The installed photovoltaic (PV) array will provide an additional 15% savings beyond the already established 50% savings."
The Platinum certified home in Youngsville, NY showcases one of New World Home's traditional and regionally-derived American designs. According to Tyler Schmetterer, the company's other Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, the underlying essence of a New World Home is that it aligns perfectly with the surrounding design vernacular, while simultaneously representing one of the greenest residential structures available in the country today.
