October 20, 2009

The Building Performance Institute (BPI) - a nationally recognized provider of training, certification, accreditation and quality-assurance programs - has approved Advanced Energy's "Building Science Master Certification" course for 16 continuing education units (CEUs). Participants in the two-day class learn key principles of building science focused on developing environmentally responsible homes that are energy efficient, durable and comfortable.
The class is open to all interested building professionals, and is one of several offered by Masco Home Services, Inc., and other training providers that assists participants in qualifying to become a representative for the Environments For Living® program. In addition to eligibility for BPI credits, participants can earn credits under the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) program administered by the National Association of State Energy Officials and Energy Rated Homes of America.
The Advanced Energy Building Science Master Certification course covers the following topics:
  • Creating a tight structure
  • Improving the thermal boundary
  • Developing a conditioning strategy that works in your climate
  • Understanding and implementing moisture management
  • Offering indoor environmental quality in your homes
  • Achieving water conservation with no trade-off in performance
  • Developing an energy-efficient lighting plan
  • Implementing and promoting sound control for enhanced quality of living
  • Leveraging the power of green marketing
"With home buyer's growing interest in green construction, more builders are looking for practical information on ways they can make their homes tighter and more energy efficient," says Rick Davenport, vice president, Building Science, Masco Corporation. "The course is a great way to learn how time-tested principles of building science can actually help builders save money by reducing call-backs, while providing a higher quality, more environmentally responsible home than one built under conventional codes."
