Montine Hansl was a happy customer even before the salon remodel began, having used Hopkins & Porter a few years earlier. She and co-owner Gail Clapper came away from the beauty salon project as happy as ever.
- The design exceeded the owners’ requirements. Hopkins & Porter’s contract architect, Rick Shea, designed just what the owners wanted -- an efficient space with a warm, country French character. Ideas such as the "honeycomb" booth arrangement, custom styling carts and boxed-out windows took the design beyond what the owners envisioned.
- The salon stayed open during construction. "It was very important to us not to lose customers [during the remodel]," says Hansl. "Once customers went away, they might not come back." Hopkins & Porter packed production into three days a week and scrupulously cleaned the site, enabling the salon to serve customers until the final 10-day blitz.
- The contractor kept the clients informed about costs. As Hansl added things during the job, Hopkins & Porter always discussed prices with her. She knew the cost implications of every proposed change and could make informed decisions.
- Communication remained close and constructive. Mike Denker, the company’s co-owner, came by from time to time as the job progressed to make sure it was shaping up the way Hansl wanted. When questions arose, lead carpenter Don Lowery always cleared them with Hansel. "We worked very closely together," she says. "It was a great relationship."
