APA Competition Will HonorUpholstery Designers

APA - The Engineered Wood Association and udm magazine have announced the Second Annual Under the Covers Upholstered Furniture Design Contest, a national competition to recognize excellence in upholstery design.

The contest awards creativity and innovation in the design of upholstery seating and recognizes the contribution that an imaginative design makes to the success of upholstery in today's competitive marketplace. The Under the Covers competition also acknowledges the contribution of production technology and, specifically, the importance of advances made possible by the use of engineered wood panels in frame construction.

Designs will be judged in five areas: specification of APA trademarked furniture frame grade panels; affordable use of frame materials in manufacturing; strength and durability of frame construction; aesthetic appeal; and innovative design features.

"We want to show the industry that originality and creativity in design are not limited by the choice of frame material," says Tom Kositzky, APA Director of Field Services. "Entries can be either motion or stationary and there is no limit to the number of entries a designer can submit."

The Grand Prize winner will receive an award and $3,500 and Merit Award Winners will receive $500. The winning entries will be announced and on display during an industry reception at the International Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair in Atlanta, August 24-27, 2000.
