Project Green House: Streetman Homes See Green

This home builder takes green to the max

Project Green House showcases prototype homes that have significant sustainable, renewable, energy-efficient characteristics. These homes may be built to adhere to a particular green certification program or use cutting-edge green technology or principles. The intent is to educate builders on new methods and the quality of results that can be achieved by incorporating green into their projects.

This is an interactive feature with a virtual tour, a slideshow, and a podcast of Randy Streetman, president of Streetman Homes.

Based in Austin, Texas, this Colorado "A" model by Streetman Homes is located in the Mueller Redevelopment, a large parcel of land that once housed the Mueller Airport. Multiple home builders are building in this community; we featured one in the October issue of Professional Builder.

What makes this home different from the others in the community is that Streetman Homes took it to the max. To build in the Mueller Redevelopment Project, home builders were required to strive for 3-star energy ratings, based on the point system established by the Austin Energy Green Building program. Homes built by Streetman Homes in the community are designed to achieve a 5-star rating, the maximum number of stars awarded from the program. But they look like traditional, luxurious homes.

"While some green homes are ultramodern in appearance, these homes are more traditional, urban Country Hill style," says Ryan Jackson, director of sales and marketing for Streetman Homes.

Jackson continues on to say, "Austin doesn't have a lot of five-star homes in the area and there's a need for it in the marketplace. For us, it's a good thing because it sets us apart from the other [home] builders building in the master community."

President of Streetman Homes, Randy Streetman agrees, "We're paving the way for the future."
