Long acknowledged by the residential and commercial construction communities as an indispensable business tool, Polaroid imaging solutions are used everyday by a variety of contractors and tradesmen.
Why Imaging?
Construction companies are increasingly using film and digital solutions to record every step of a major project, often as part of a recently-established company quality procedure. This includes daily, weekly and monthly reports with images to support and clarify all written documentation procedures. Working with several regional and worldwide construction firms, Polaroid has identified eleven key applications for imaging before, during, and after major construction projects.
- Documentation of "firsts." Photographing landmark events in the construction of a building "from groundbreaking to ribbon cutting." These kinds of images have value as sales and marketing tools, and for future archival reference.
- Start of project. Similar to "firsts," but primarily addresses "ground-level" activities - utility excavations, foundation excavation, pile driving, foundation walls and slabs - to demonstrate code compliance and to use as a location reference in the event that any of these areas requires service or maintenance. As a project progresses "start of project" documentation will evolve in "daily work-in-progress."
- Daily "work-in-progress." Recording the status of each major activity occurring at the site for each "microcosm" of the project. These "microcosms" are the different areas of the project being built by your various contractors and sub-contractors.
- Work completed. Documentation of the completion of major elements of the building construction, and is reserved for only the most significant parts of the building process - completion of the foundation, structural steel, roof, all pre-cast concrete elements including windows and wall slabs.
- Contract compliance/non-compliance. Documentation that all work done by your contractors and sub-contractors matches the specifications and standards set forth in all contracts and contract drawings.
- Work pending. Documentation of any event or situation that creates a delay in the project - whether the delay effects only a part of the overall project, or the entire construction project.
- Material or equipment arrival. Documentation of any materials and equipment (HVAC components, generators, AC units, etc.) that will be used on the building itself.
- Disassembly proceedings. Documentation of building elements that must be disassembled and removed because they were built incorrectly or in the wrong location - particularly plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems. Images are used as an effective way to remind the sub-contractor that a specific situation needs to be corrected.
- "Change order" documentation. Documentation of extra work done by a sub-contractor to accommodate a change in the contract specifications.
- Damage documentation. Documentation of damage to the building for insurance purposes.
- Safety documentation. Documentation that all safety features are (or are not) in place on the construction site.
Speed, simplicity, standardization and ease-of-use are essential when selecting imaging systems - and creating reporting processes -- for your construction projects.
