The lines, light, and sleek aesthetic of mid-century modern homes has never been more popular. That is why, from California to Florida, and all points in between, luxury home buyers are snapping them up and updating them to match today’s lifestyles. In this case, the designer/remodeler had even bigger plans. They removed a southern-facing flat roof and tilted it upward to create a large window wall that captured more sunlight and allowed it to penetrate deeper into the home. The owners originally wanted to simply bust down the walls between their kitchen and great room, but the temptation to re-do virtually all of the spaces on the main floor was too enticing once the idea had been planted. Where once there were three distinct spaces: a kitchen, an informal dining room, and a living room—a massive great room kitchen combination took its place. Bright and filled with light, the home now takes full advantage of great views from its perch on a bluff.
